We are very excited to announce a new development for Aspen Camp.
During our renewal effort, we met with several organizations and individuals. Each of these discussions provided us with some kind of inspiration. This inspiration overflowed into a new vision.
What is this vision? Hackschooling.
The definition of “hack” is “a strategy or technique for managing one’s time or activities more efficiently.” The definition of schooling is “education or training received, especially at school”.
Thus hackschooling means a strategy to make education more efficient.
Imagine students and campers learning through hands-on experience in a curriculum they develop for themselves under the guidance of some neat mentors. Imagine students traveling to another country as part of their studies. Imagine a whole new campus around the concept of a “Deaf village”?
It’s an evolution is natural for the camp. It’ll support our long-standing programs, like winter and summer camp while bringing an innovative solution to the challenges we face with Deaf education.
With this exciting new concept, we are establishing the Aspen Vanguard. This task force will assist us in the research and planning needed to create a concrete future.
The possibilities are unlimited.
