We have core values to dictate our direction. However, our personal philosophy provides us with good practices to apply to the programs and services we offer. This also influences the quality customer service we are proud to offer our community.
A Person Is A Person
At Aspen Camp, we look past labels and see you for who you are. We do not see you as disabled, Deaf/deaf, hard of hearing, different, black, white, straight, gay, or whatever other labels you can think of. Don’t get us wrong, if you proudly identify as something- we honor that.
Our point is that at Aspen Camp, you’re free to be yourself without restrictions or fear. The whole point is for you to enjoy your adventure, whether it’s educational, self-discovery, or just for fun.
Communication For All
We recognize that language is a huge part of our development and make every effort to include literacy, communication skills, and sign language in all our programs. We look past your hearing levels and assitive devices, if any, and support your preferred communication methods without judgement. If you prefer sign language, we do that! If you prefer to speak, we do that too! We want you to be comfortable during your stay.
Technology is bittersweet. It helps us in many ways. However, it hurts us in many ways too. We may be the most in-touch generation in history but we are actually the most disconnected as well. We are trading floor space for friends and nature for virtual reality.
To counter this, we build in outdoor experience to support the health, happiness, and growth of our guests. We encourage minimal use of electronics while at camp. We also provide outdoor education to inspire eco-consciousness and pride for the planet we live on. Like Time magazine once said, “there is no PLANet B.”
Safety Is Number 1
Safety is always our priority. Our crew members are rigorously screened and required to pass background checks for the safety of our guests. They then are trained in safety, policies & procedures, Deaf Culture, recognizing and preventing abuse, power & privilege, community accountability, and communication modality. The bottom line is that we want everyone to have fun, have enriching experiences, and be safe.
