Aspen Rotary Pitches In To Prepare Aspen Camp For Summer Programs
Snowmass, CO – On May 21-22, 2016, more than 20 Rotarians will gather at Aspen Camp of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to complete several major projects to improve the campus just in time for programs. They will be providing much needed help painting, cleaning, and landscaping. Also slated for this eventful weekend is the demolition of the pottery building which suffered irreparable damage last fall. These needed projects will create a safer and updated environment for program participants.
Aspen Camp and the Aspen Rotary have a long history together. In fact, according to a 1975 article in The Rotarian, Aspen Rotary was chartered in 1971, in part, to actively support Aspen Camp. Reed Harris, Aspen Camp’s founder, was a Rotarian. His passion to provide outdoor educational experiences to Deaf* children greatly influenced Rotary activities to provide help with painting, construction, landscaping, fund raising, and other assistance. More than 40 years later, Aspen Rotary is still actively involved with Aspen Camp.
The community Volunteer Weekend is slated for June 11-12 will further Rotary’s work in the final tasks needed to prepare the campus for summer camp to begin on June 21. Please RSVP at www.aspencamp.org/volunteerweekend to volunteer.
