A Letter From Katie
Aspen Camp is such an incredible place.
Growing up, I had my challenges as a Deaf person. I had hearing friends but they didn’t really understand me or what it was like to be Deaf. So I was often the last to laugh at a joke or to find the latest gossip in school. I had Deaf* friends but was often picked on because I could talk or because I didn’t sign perfect American Sign Language.
The one thing that inspired me to keep going and to not let other people pull me down was Aspen Camp. I looked forward to coming here every summer. I found myself. I built a sense of pride for being Deaf. I learned that I could do anything I put my mind to. I came here for eight summer.
Now I am living the best life I could dream of. I now live and work at Aspen Camp. I am able to sustain the camp’s mission and give the experiences I had to Deaf* kids these days. The best thing about working here is seeing how much we positively impact our campers and their families. Gah, I am about to tear up. I’ll stop here.
But you get my point. So for my 29th birthday, I want to raise $29,000 for Aspen Camp. If one thousand of my friends donated $29, I will hit that goal. It really isn’t that hard. But I need you. Not only will you be helping me get closer to my goal by May 30, you’ll get tax benefits as Aspen Camp is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
Please donate at least $29 dollars today. You’ll make a difference to the kids we serve and make my birthday the best one ever.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you do for the kids.
